The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) has announced the extension of the acceptance of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Undertaking for the renewal of Professional Identification Cards (PICs) until 31 December 2026. This extension provides much-needed flexibility to professionals across various sectors while maintaining the government's commitment to lifelong learning and professional excellence.
The CPD Act of 2016 (Republic Act No. 10912) was enacted to ensure that Filipino professionals continuously enhance their knowledge, skills, and competencies throughout their careers. Under the law, professionals are generally required to earn the prescribed number of CPD credit units before renewing their Professional Identification Cards.
Recognizing the challenges faced by many professionals in completing their CPD requirements, the PRC has continued to allow the submission of a CPD Undertaking as an alternative compliance mechanism during the renewal process. Through this undertaking, professionals may renew their licenses while committing to complete the required CPD units within the prescribed period.
The extension until 31 December 2026 is expected to benefit thousands of professionals, including Real Estate Service Practitioners, Architects, Engineers, Environmental Planners, Accountants, Teachers, and other PRC-regulated professions. It provides additional time for professionals to participate in accredited learning activities, seminars, conferences, training programs, and other educational opportunities necessary to fulfill their CPD obligations.
For members of the real estate profession, this extension offers an excellent opportunity to take advantage of CPD-accredited programs organized by professional organizations such as the National Real Estate Association (NREA), government agencies, and accredited CPD providers. These programs not only assist in meeting regulatory requirements but also contribute to professional growth and improved service delivery to clients and stakeholders.
While the extension eases immediate compliance concerns, professionals are encouraged not to delay their participation in CPD activities. Continuous learning remains essential in keeping pace with evolving industry standards, emerging technologies, regulatory developments, and best practices.
The PRC's decision reflects its commitment to supporting Filipino professionals while upholding the objectives of professional development and public service excellence. As the 31 December 2026 deadline approaches, professionals are advised to plan their CPD activities proactively and ensure compliance with future renewal requirements.
For updates and guidance regarding CPD requirements, professionals are encouraged to regularly monitor PRC advisories and coordinate with their respective Accredited Professional Organizations (APOs).
Continuous learning today builds a stronger, more competent profession for tomorrow.
